After spending the last four years on the road, Gracie Abrams believed she would take a well-earned break before diving into another album. Instead, inspiration arrived much sooner than expected, leading to Daughter From Hell, her highly anticipated new record set for release on July 17.

Speaking on the latest episode of Vogue's podcast alongside senior editor Marley Marius and global head of social media Sam Sussman, the singer-songwriter reflected on the surprisingly quick creative process behind the album and the artistic partnership that continues to shape her music.

Abrams credited longtime collaborator and producer Aaron Dessner for helping unlock ideas even during moments when creativity felt out of reach. Having worked together for six years, she described their studio chemistry as something almost instinctive, explaining that simply hearing Dessner begin to play music immediately sparks new inspiration.

One of the album's standout tracks, "Hit the Wall," emerged from an especially emotional writing session at New York City's Electric Lady Studios. Abrams recalled arriving at the studio feeling emotionally overwhelmed, describing an unshakable sense that something was weighing heavily on her.

She explained that once the instrumental loop for the song began playing, the emotions she had been struggling to process suddenly found a place to exist. Rather than dwelling on negativity, Abrams said the songwriting experience allowed her to channel those feelings into music, leaving her with the same sense of release she remembered from writing songs as a teenager.

The candid conversation offers fans a deeper look into the emotional landscape behind Daughter From Hell, suggesting the upcoming album will be one of Abrams' most personal projects to date.

The podcast episode also covered several major entertainment moments from the weekend. Hosts discussed the latest Tony Awards highlights, Dua Lipa's Italian wedding celebrations, and Vogue's American Style project created in collaboration with cultural commentator Biz Sherbert, which featured voice memos from two enthusiastic finalists.

Abrams is also entering a new chapter beyond music, with fans eagerly anticipating her acting debut alongside the release of her new album. As excitement builds for July 17, the singer appears ready to embrace both musical evolution and a growing presence on screen, marking what could become one of the defining moments of her career.
